Bringing Integrity to the Written Word

Expanding my horizons

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by a few people in this town who have turned me onto some new tunes, movies and books. My new goal is to read 2 new books a month. Books that I wouldn’t normally choose to read. I’ve started a book list of recommended reading, and I’m currently reading “Main Street.” I’m striving to watch one new movie each week, again, one that I wouldn’t usually choose myself. Last night I saw Madagascar 2 with the V family. I’m counting that for this week because I wouldn’t normally be caught dead going to see a cartoon on a friday night. The last movie I saw that fell into the “new” category for me was the “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” It was recommended by one of my dam friends, and turned out to be really good. I have several others on my list, but I won’t say what they are until I’ve seen them and can review them. I’m getting hooked on some new music a friend gave me, although I don’t know the artists.

Apparently I’ve been a bit closed-minded about many things, movies, books and music just to name a few. The more I’m experiencing the more I’m realizing that maybe I’m not the only one who has the thoughts that I have. Well, I guess technically I’m the only one who has my thoughts, but apparently there are many other, including artists who put their thoughts into words or music, who feels some of the same things that I do. Although it’s stimulating and fun to realize such a thing, it’s a little disconcerting to be reminded, once again, that maybe everything isn’t always just about me.

I’m also trying earnestly to hone my photography skills. That was one of my goals when I left the city. I really want to be able to take compelling photographs to go along with my stories, especially when I start writing for national publications. It’s harder than I thought it would be. I have a hard time seeing the story without the written word. But alas, I will persevere.
